Dr Giorgia Bottinelli, Norwich Castle Museum & Art Gallery

Curator of historic art at Norwich Castle Museum and Art Gallery.

Dr Bottinelli has a PhD in the History of Art from the Courtauld Institute of Art.

She also oversaw the complete redevelopment of the Colman Galleries in 2011-12.

She is currently curating John Sell Cotman in Norwich and London (Jun 2018-2019)

During Paint Out Norwich, Dr Bottinelli will be delivering a talk on John Sell Cotman in Norwich & London (Tue 16 Oct, 6pm, £10)

Tony Robinson

Tony is passionate about painting from life outdoors and participated in the inaugural Paint Out Wells-next-the-Sea in 2015.

Tony will be a guest artist at various points during Paint Out Norwich and offering a demonstration during the event.

David Curtis, ROI RSMA

David Curtis was elected to the Royal Society of Marine Artists in 1983 and a member of the Royal Institute of Oil Painters in 1988.

Essentially, a plein air and figurative painter, working in both oils and watercolours, David observes transient lighting conditions and effects of atmosphere in his compositions. He is the author six books including A Light Touch, the Landscape in Oils, Light and Mood in Watercolour and Painting on Location.

David is a regular exhibitor in all the major National Society exhibitions and has work held in private collections, both nationally and abroad.

Sue founded the Serpentine Gallery (aged 22!), which she directed for 13 years before moving on to become Exhibitions Director at the Cornerhouse Gallery in Manchester, then Director of the Photographers Gallery. She founded The Campaign for Drawing – now The Big Draw in 2000, through which she has encouraged over three million people of all ages to pick up pencil, paper, paintbrush – or less conventional tools – in order to create and connect.

Nick went from The Christies Fine Art course to work at Bonhams auctioneers for 11 years heading up their Modern art Department. He then worked with the Ingelby Gallery in London and Edinburgh, dealers in contemporary art including painters such as Howard Hodgkin and Craigie Aitchison. For the last 12 years he has been an independent art advisor specialising in Modern British and European Art of the 20th century.

Nicholas studied painting and stone carving at the Norwich School of Art and taught at Cambridge School of Art. He has worked mainly in East Anglia and his beloved Shetlands for some 50 years where he is an excellent landscape artist and printmaker. He finds the immediacy of watercolour lends itself to his en plein air landscapes and favoured fishing boats. He was part of the panel at Paint Out Wells 2015 Artists Question Time.

Amanda was formerly the Chief Curator at the Sainsbury Centre for Visual Arts (SCVA) at the University of East Anglia. She is now the Director of the East Anglia Arts Fund. She has studied art history at the University of Western Australia and became Head of Collections & Exhibitions at the SCVA in 1998 including responsibility for the Robert & Lisa Sainsbury Collection, the UEA Collection of Abstract & Constructivist Art & Design and the Anderson Collection of Art Nouveau.

Marcus Dickey Horley has been working at Tate since Tate Modern opened in 2000. Since 2006 he has been Curator of Access and Special Projects – “creating and delivering events to engage diverse audiences with museum and gallery collections.” Marcus is also a Trustee of Shape Arts disability arts access group and chairs Tate‘s Access Advisory Group. Marcus gave a lecture at SCVA on Francis Bacon in July 2015 and has previously given guest lectures on art at NUA in Norwich.

Hazel is a well known local artist in Wells-next-the-Sea, best known for her colourful, cartoon style of painting and for her annual Wells-next-the Sea calendar. Hazel runs an art shop and studio in Staithe Street, Wells-next-the-Sea, stocking artist materials, paintings by local artists and her own souvenirs. Hazel has exhibited in Norwich Assembly Rooms and also published two books. ‘Things My Mother Taught Me’, an illustrated book of proverbs and in 2012 produced ‘Hazel Ashley’s Round Tower Churches of Norfolk’, a personal selection of some of the many round tower churches for which Norfolk is famous. Although Hazel’s main work is in watercolour she also paints using oils, pastels and acrylics. She accepts commissions in all these media. Hazel has been a member of Wells Art Group for over 20 years and regularly organizes summer outdoor painting sessions for the group.

James Glennie is a qualified valuer with over thirty years experience in the art valuation and auction field, fourteen of which were with international auctioneers Bonhams, where he established their national Museums Department, their first office in East Anglia and the popular East Anglian View sales, he was responsible for many country house sales as well as single owner sales in London and New York. He left to establish Art & Antiques Appraisals Ltd in 2007 which in addition to its private clients receives instructions from many important institutions including The Royal College of Art, The British Museum, English Heritage, The Supreme Court and The Church of England.

Laura Williams is an owner and director of Art 1821 – the gallery/museum housed at the listed building, The Old Skating Rink, Bethel Street, Norwich. Here art, architecture and museum worthy pieces sit juxtaposed, mixing contemporary, modern and antique in unique surroundings. The gallery also represents the young British artist Alec Cumming.
